INDIA: ONE COUNTRY, DIFFERENT FACES
Photographers from India, Izrael, Russia, Germany and USA
paint together a powerful portrait of India. The exhibition
displays different images of an enigmatic country that for
many centuries attracts adventurers and spiritual seekers
from all over the world. Presented artworks differ in style
and decorative design that amplifies the impression of
individual vision of each artist. The exhibition becomes a
real journey into the world of ancient culture and history
deepened by the accompanying sounds of Indian music and
relaxing atmosphere of the place.
Ilia Zilberman (Izrael) presents a vision of a man who
was charmed by India from the first sight, and decided to
move there. He spent several years living in the country
that made his affection towards it even stronger.
Subir Basak (India) from Kolkata, West Bengal, shares his
India with people who have never had a chance to visit his
homeland.
Suchit Nanda (India), Mumbai based photographer,
presents a short series of amazing portraits that are
enough to express the whole atmosphere of the country
and the people.
Yelena Tanskova (Russia) is looking for a harmony in the
surrounding world, and finds it in the middle of two
extremes. For her India is one of the places with a lot of
harmony.
Alexander Illi (Germany) with his adventurous spirit and
striking energy sees the world from an unusual perspective.
His works make you stop and observe the details.
Fitz Carlile (USA), a Hollywood, CA based photographer,
enjoys photographing oblique and simple perspectives of
every day life, drawing inspiration from Henri Cartier-
Bresson, who expressed that "the smallest thing can be a
great subject."
Gala Gallery is opening the exhibition with a movie shot by
Eugene Shemshurin, a talented Russian cameraman. His
work is the result of three months’ travelling in India in
2008, including such places as Varanasi, Mumbai,
Mamalapuram, Pondicherry, Kolkata and Bodhgaya.
