Born in Coimbra, Portugal, in 1954, he now lives in Setúbal, in the
south of Portugal.
He has been a professional photographer for twenty five years working
mainly in the areas of landscape and culture heritage. Portrait is also
one of his passions.
When he’s not in studio taking care of his huge commercial image
library about Portugal (www.mauricioabreu.com), Maurício Abreu can be
found wandering along deserted spaces, inspiring cities, Islamic
countries and along the Silk Road, producing images about life and its
relationship with nature and environmental surroundings.
He published and co-ordinated a collection of photographic books
about various parts of Portugal, accompanied by texts written by several
Portuguese writers. Several of his books have been published by major
Portuguese publishing houses.
The series of photographs "Mali" depicts the beauty and mystery of a
landlocked nation in Western Africa - the seventh largest country in
Africa.
