TVs anticipating the birth of a new American Idol. “American Idol” in America is more than a reality show. In fact
it IS American reality.

came to America. “Idol” is jointly owned by Fuller’s 19 Entertainment and FremantleMedia.
“American Idol” seeks to discover the best young singer in America through a series of nationwide auditions. The
judges on the show:
Simon Cowell (an executive for 19 Recordings Unlimited Company), Paula Abdul (singer and
choreographer), and
Randy Jackson (record producer) choose the contestants during auditions in different cities
of America. In the finals, every Tuesday each contestant performs a song live in prime time at CBS Television
City in Los Angeles, California in front of a live studio audience. The show is aired on Fox and hosted by Rayan
Seacrest.
The judges comment on each performance. The American audience however decides who is to stay on the show
by phoning and messaging after the show. Each Wednesday the bottom contestant is “celebrated home”, the
rest take part in the next show on Tuesday.

Season 7 started on January 15, 2008 and concluded on May 21, 2008.

The final American Idol show-competition on May 20 with David Archuleta vs David Cook pulled out a recorded 97
million votes. It was the highest recorded vote total in the show's history.

David Archuleta, a 17 year old man-child from Utah with a giant smile and incredibly warm personality, was the
season’s favorite.  He got the votes from junior high schools and a date with
Mariah Carey. During one of the
shows she promised to come to his prom, if he invited.
David Cook, a 25 year old rock singer from Missouri, sounded quite assured and very original.

Each of the final two contestants had to perform three songs during the last show.
Simon, who is famous for his critics and rough comments announced: “The first round goes to Archuleta”.
After David and David performed the second song Simon said: “The second round- David Archuleta”
Then after the third round: “David Cook, you should sing “Hello”, or “Billie Jean”-, recommended Simon.
Cook replied: “Why should I do something I already did?”
Archuleta however was on the same page with Simon- he had chosen the guarantee winner “Imaging”- the same
version he did in the top 24-round.
“What we witnessed here tonight was a knockout”- announced Simon after David Archuleta's performance.
Who wants to vote now?

I did not vote, though I did not miss a single performance, and really wanted David Cook to win.
I did not believe in votes, especially on such a huge commercial show as "American Idol". In fact, during the
whole season it looked like judges were in charge of everything...
“Jason, pack your things”, - said Simon to
Jason Castro on the night right before his elimination.
“Check it out, baby, check it out”, - said Randy, - “It was OK for me…a little bit pitchy… but it was OK”
… but pitchy… but OK…
So “pitchy” became the word for the singer’s performance.

After the judges declared on Tuesday Archuleta a guaranteed Idol-to-be, there was even less hope for any
possible unexpected decisions.

Big mistake!
America watched the show, America voted, America decided…
David Cook became the winner of the competition on May 21, 2008, defeating David Archuleta by a margin of
roughly 12 million votes.
Simon took an opportunity during the Grand Finale to apologize…

In fact, the final American Idol show was not only about the Idol, it was about America. It was more than
American reality show- it was American reality, as for millions of people it became obvious again: America is the
country where dreams DO come true.
It might be a long and exhausting competition, but it is definitely an honest and an open one.
So, do not give up on you dreams!
And if you ever have a chance to express your opinion and vote, please vote, because every vote WILL COUNT!
